What are Neuromodulators?
Neuromodulators, such as Botox and Dysport, are cosmetic injections of botulinum toxin type A, which can temporarily paralyze targeted facial muscles. When injected into the facial muscles responsible for your expression lines, such as the forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet, neuromodulators temporarily block communication between your muscles and nerve fibers. Consequently, the facial muscles stop contracting, which reduces the prominence of the unwanted dynamic wrinkles. The results appear gradually over several days.
Botox vs. Dysport
Dysport and Botox are different brands for the same substance — botulinum toxin type A. Besides the primary neurotoxin protein, both products have slightly different formulations that can lead to slightly different results. While Botox is FDA-approved to correct forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet, Dysport is only FDA-approved for frown lines. However, both neuromodulators can be used for numerous other dynamic wrinkles on the face.
